Does Vaping Make You Snore? What the Research Says
Nobody lights up at midnight expecting a lecture. Still, your lungs, your pulse, and your partner’s ears all notice what happens after the last puff.
So do vapes make you snore? Short version: nobody has shown it, though vaping and poor sleep do travel together.
What Does Vaping Do to Your Sleep?
A 2025 meta-analysis combined 14 cross-sectional studies. Odds of short sleep ran 1.38 times higher among vapers, with a confidence range of 1.24 to 1.55.
Among teenagers, the risk of inadequate sleep ran 33 to 61% higher. The authors caution that these studies show association, not cause.
A 2019 study of e-cigarette users reported poorer sleep health too, even among people who did not vape daily.
Why Nicotine Is a Bad Bedtime Habit
Nicotine is a stimulant. Seventeen volunteers inhaled nicotine vapor in a 2019 experiment. Their heart rate and artery stiffness rose within minutes.

A nicotine patch trial in nonsmokers, a 1994 study, cost people 33 minutes of sleep. Efficiency fell from 89.7% to 83.5%.
A patch is not a vape, but the active ingredient is the same. Give yourself a nicotine-free stretch before bed.
Is Vapor Gentler Than Smoke?
Not in a way anyone can prove yet. Vapor is more than water. This 2019 BMJ review lists nicotine, flavorings, propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerin, and notes biologic effects.
The same review says we lack the knowledge to call vaping safer for the lungs than combustible tobacco.
What About the Snoring Itself?
We found no study linking vaping to snoring. There is a clue from cigarettes, though: smokers snored for 41% of the night versus 31% for nonsmokers in the Busselton study.
Tobacco is not vapor, so treat that as a hint. Meanwhile, see how to test for sleep apnea and whether a humidifier helps.
If the snoring is simple, a mouthpiece is an option. Browse the device guide and talk to a dentist.
A Simple Night Plan for Vapers Who Snore
- Pick a cutoff time and stick to it. Make it earlier on nights you already sleep badly.
- Keep a sleep diary for two weeks. Note vaping, bedtime, snoring complaints, and morning mood.
- Try side sleeping. On your back, gravity pulls the tongue and palate toward the throat.
- Ask your dentist whether an oral appliance suits you if the snoring continues.
None of this needs a gadget. Most of it needs only a little discipline and a notebook.
Why Vaping and Snoring Get Lumped Together
Both land in the same bedroom. A partner who hears a nightly rumble often notices the evening vape too, and the two get blamed together.
Cause and effect are harder to prove. Sleep studies that track nicotine rarely measure snoring, and snoring studies rarely ask about vapes.
Until someone runs that trial, the safest stance is plain: nicotine is a stimulant, snoring has many causes, and both deserve attention.
